But if the <em>Agni<\/em> of a person is vitiated, the whole metabolism in his body would be disturbed, resulting in ill health and disease. The functions performed by the external fire are the same as performed by <em>Pitta <\/em>in the body, hence the term <em>Pitta <\/em>and <em>Agni <\/em>have been used as similar entities. In <em>Charaka Samhita <\/em>\u00a0<em>Marichi <\/em>rishi stated that it is the <em>Agni <\/em>alone that located in <em>Pitta<\/em>, gives rise to beneficial or harmful consequences accordingly as it is in normal or abnormal state i.e. <em>Agni <\/em>which is present \u00a0\u00a0in form of <em>Pitta <\/em>in the body is responsible for producing various effects\u00a0 either in normal (non-vitiated) or abnormal (vitiated) states respectively.
