Transitional Curriculum- 2021 BAMS Batch
The Ayurveda Network coordinated the conduction of “Transitional Curriculum” for students of the first year BAMS admitted in 2021-2022 in the faculty of Ayurveda, BHU, Varanasi. This program was organized jointly by the faculty of Ayurveda and Ayurveda Network BHU. This program was conducted from 22 March 2022 to 6/04 /2022. Several insightful lectures were delivered by many prominent personalities of Ayurveda via online/ offline mode. All the video recordings are available with us and these lectures are being edited to be suitably hosted on our website.
Transitional Curriculum- 2022 BAMS Batch
The National Council for Indian Systems of Medicine (NCISM) has introduced a 15-day long Transitional Curriculum for freshly joined BAMS graduate students. We are conducting this since last three years.
The intention behind introducing this program is to introduce all domains of Ayurveda at the beginning of the studies itself. The fact that these students come with a science background and are not exposed to Ayurveda during their primary, secondary or pre-university education, makes this initiative very important. Theoretical framework of Ayurveda is much different from what is taught to them during their schooling. Further, these students often find it difficult to read and write Sanskrit, which is an essential language for a learner of Ayurveda.
This year we conducted 16 days of transitional curriculum where different experts from within the faculty and from outside interacted with our students. It was jointly organized by faculty of Ayurveda and Ayurveda Network BHU. This program started with the inaugural session with the Chief Guest being Prof. Anupam Nema, Dean of Students, and Prof. KN Dwivedi, Dean Faculty of Ayurveda, presiding over. Prof. Kishor Patwardhan, Coordinator of program, and Dr Anurag Pandey, Students’ Advisor too were present on the stage.
Many teachers from the Institute of Management Studies, Faculty of Education, Faculty of SVDV, Faculty of Medicine, Institute of Agriculture Sciences, Interdisciplinary School of Life Sciences (ISLS) and from the Faculty of Arts – from within BHU were invited to conduct different sessions. These sessions covered varied topics such as team-based learning, time management, educational domains, history of medicine, spoken English, spoken Sanskrit, pharmacology, infectious diseases, molecular biology, etc. Along with all subjects of Ayurveda. All Heads of the departments introduced their activities to the students. Students were also taken to the hospital, OPD/IPDs, Bharat Kala Bhavan etc. A few National and International speakers from outside too were invited to deliver lectures through offline/online mode. A few journal editors, scientists and practitioners too were invited. Some of our alumni from Delhi, NIA-Jaipur, Mauritius, and UK too were invited. An invited lecture by a practitioner from USA too was included. A musical evening too was organised with the help of Daksh Trust.
The valedictory ceremony was held on 16th February with Prof. Manoranjan Sahu, Padma Shri awardee, being the chief guest. Dr Mridula Singh, his better half, too accompanied Prof Sahu. Prof VK Shukla, Rector BHU presided over the event. Prof. Sahu shared some interesting experiences starting from his student life till the establishment of Kshar Sutra Center in BHU.
