Dr. Mangalagowri V Rao obtained her BAMS degree from Government Ayurveda College, Bangalore, her MD(Ay) degree in Swasthavritta, from Government Ayurveda College, Kerala University and Ph. D in Swasthavritta from Banaras Hindu University, Varanasi. She also has also obtained Diploma in Yoga, from BHU and Diploma in Nutrition and Health Education from IGNOU.
She served as Lecturer in Swasthavritta at SSRB Rural Ayurvedic Medical College, Inchal, Bailahongal and ALN Rao Memorial Ayurvedic Medical College, Koppa, Karnataka before joining as Medical Officer (Ayurveda), at Govt. of NCT through UPSC. She joined as Assistant Professor in Department of Swasthavritta and Yoga on 20.01.2006 at Banaras Hindu University. In between, she also served as Associate Professor and head of Department of Swasthavritta, All India Institute of Medical Sciences, New Delhi for three years. Presently she is serving as Assistant Professor (Stage 3) at Banaras Hindu University, Varanasi. She has a Teaching experience of 16 years and total Professional Experience of 21 years. She has been awarded with Best MD Guide in Swasthavritta and Yoga, and several best paper Awards at International and National platforms.
She visited Baghdad, Iraq on the occasion of International Yoga Day 2016 and Rabat, Casablanca, Morocco for celebration of Ayurveda Week in 2018 as an Ayurveda Expert. She has conducted workshop on ‘Yoga’ and ‘Dietetics and Culinary practices in Ayurveda’. She also delivered Ayurveda awareness lectures for Govt. officials and local community at Iraq and Morocco.
She is an External expert for “Development of Lifestyle Guidelines of Ayurveda for Rationalization and Standardization of Health Promotion” under the activity of WHO Collaborating Centre for traditional Medicines (Ayurveda) at IPGT&RA, Jamnagar and Internal expert for “Development Ayurvedic Diet and Lifestyle Protocol for Prevention and Management of Diabetes Mellitus and its complications (Central- Ministry of AYUSH)” held at AIIA, New Delhi.
Dr. Mangalagowri has published 3 books entitled “A Text book of Svasthavritta”, “The Essence of Yoga”, 2011, and “The Essentials of Nature Cure” to her credit. She has also written 07 chapters in books from different publishers. She is member of editorial board and reviewer for several journals of Ayurveda and complementary medicine. She has more than 60 scientific paper published in various international and national journals. She has completed 10 MD thesis and 2 Ph. D works under progress.
The areas of research include diet and Yoga in metabolic disorders like Diabetes mellitus, Obesity, dyslipidemia, allergic conditions like Allergic rhinitis, Asthma and menopausal condition, Effect of Medhya Rasayanas on memory, adjustment and aggression scales.
She has organized 3 international and 1 national conference as organizing secretary and conducted several workshops on Yoga and diet at several national and international platforms. She has delivered key note addresses, guest lectures, chaired sessions and presented scientific papers in various national and international conferences all over India and abroad. She is member of many scientific and academic bodies. She has also organized several free health camps, Ayurveda awareness camps and Yoga camps in the community.
