Prof. Vinod Kumar Joshi hails from Almora, Uttarakhand, India and born on 13th January, 1953.He was honoured as Emeritus Professor, Department of Dravyaguna, Faculty of Ayurveda, IMS, BHU, since Dec., 2018 for 5years.
He Served as Dean (July 2008-2011) Faculty of Ayurveda, IMS, Banaras Hindu University, Chairman, (2008-2011) Policy and Planning Committee, Faculty of Ayurveda, IMS, BHU. Head (Sept. 1995- Aug. 1998, Oct. 2005-2008, Oct. 2011-Sept. 2014 and Oct. 2017 to May, 2018), Department of Dravyaguna, Coordinator-Academic and Research Programme for Post Graduate students of Institute of Indigenous Medicine, University of Colombo, Rajagiriya, SRI LANKA; Coordinator, WHO program on Traditional Medicine, Faculty of Ayurveda, IMS, BHU;
Having 40 years teaching and Research experience in Dravyaguna, Supervised 13 Ph.D., 22M.D.(Ay.), 5 Dissertations of PG Diploma in Ayurvedic Drug Standardization, Published 115 research paper in National and International Journals, written 9 chapters in different Books. His work, “Benchmarks for Training in Ayurveda” is published in the year, 2010, WH Press, World Health Organization, Geneva 27, Switzerland. Completed 7 (seven) National and International Projects including WHO to his credit.
He was, Chairman, Ayurvedic Pharmacopeia Committee for 6 years, Ministry of AYUSH, Govt. of India, New Delhi. Member of; Governing Body, Central Council of Research in Ayurvedic Sciences for 3 years, Member, Executive Council and Governing Body of All India Institute of Ayurveda, 2017-2019, Member, Scientific Body of Pharmacopoeia Commission of Indian Medicine and Homeopathy, 2014-2019, Ministry of AYUSH. Member, Task Force on Traditional Knowledge Digital Library, Council for Siddha and Unani Drug Technical Advisory Board, Ministry of AYUSH, 2015- 2019.
Represented, Government of India on Intellectual Property and Traditional Knowledge; World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), Chiangmai, Thailand, Nov. 9 to11, 2000. Invited as an expert member by WHO and Regional Government Lombardy, Italy for “Consultation on Phytotherapy” at Milan, Italy, 20-23 November, 2006. Deputed by Ministry of AYUSH, Govt. of India as an observer of the Meeting of the Committee on Herbal Medicinal Products (HMPC) and HMPC working party on European Union Monographs and European Union List (MLWP) held from 23 – 26 Nov., 2015 and 2018 at European Medical Agency, London, United Kingdom. Invited by Rosenberg European Academy of Ayurveda, Birstein, Germany as a resource person to deliver two lectures in the 19th International Ayurveda Symposium held from 8-10, September, 2017.
